The Soviet-Led Warsaw Pact Invasion That Crushed the Prague Spring Reforms on the Night of 20-21 August 1968
Approximately 250,000 Warsaw Pact troops from the Soviet Union, Poland, East Germany, Hungary, and Bulgaria invaded Czechoslovakia on the night of 20-21 August 1968. The invasion ended the Prague Spring reform programme of Czechoslovak Communist Party First Secretary Alexander Dubcek. Approximately 137 Czechoslovak civilians were killed in the invasion and the subsequent occupation.
