The 100-Day Rwandan Genocide of April to July 1994 in Which Approximately 800,000 Tutsi and Moderate Hutu Were Killed Predominantly With Machetes
The Rwandan genocide began on the evening of 6 April 1994 with the shooting down of the Rwandan presidential aircraft. Government-organised Hutu militia and military forces killed an estimated 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu across the following 100 days. The killings were carried out predominantly with machetes by civilian Hutu participants. The Rwandan Patriotic Front captured Kigali on 4 July 1994 and ended the genocide.
