The North Vietnamese Tet Offensive of 30-31 January 1968 That Struck More Than 100 Cities Across South Vietnam

North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces launched coordinated attacks on more than 100 cities and military installations across South Vietnam during the Tet lunar new year truce on the night of 30-31 January 1968. The attacks were militarily defeated within weeks but fundamentally shifted US public opinion on the Vietnam War. President Lyndon Johnson announced on 31 March 1968 that he would not seek re-election.

The Fall of Saigon to the North Vietnamese Army at 11:30 on 30 April 1975 That Ended the Vietnam War

North Vietnamese tanks of the 203rd Armoured Regiment crashed through the gates of the Independence Palace in Saigon at 11:30 on 30 April 1975. South Vietnamese President Duong Van Minh surrendered unconditionally. The 30-year Vietnamese war for unification was over. The American helicopter evacuation of approximately 7,000 from rooftops across the previous 18 hours had ended at 07:53.
