The Battle of Britain ran from 10 July to 31 October 1940. The Royal Air Force lost approximately 1,500 aircraft and 544 pilots. The German Luftwaffe lost about 1,900 aircraft. The German invasion of Britain (Operation Sea Lion) was postponed indefinitely in September and never reactivated.
