The London Friary Where Four Medieval Queens of England Were Buried and Then Lost
The Greyfriars Church at Newgate was the wealthiest Franciscan house in medieval London. It held the tombs of Isabella of France, Joan of the Tower, Eleanor of Provence, and Marguerite of France. The church was demolished in 1547 after the Dissolution; the bones now lie under modern Newgate streets and have never been recovered.
