The Smaller Wisconsin Firestorm That Killed a Hundred and Fifty People the Same Night as Peshtigo and That No One Remembers

On 8 October 1871 — the same night the Peshtigo Fire killed over 1,500 people in northeastern Wisconsin and the Great Chicago Fire killed approximately 300 in Illinois — a third major firestorm struck the Door Peninsula on the western shore of Lake Michigan and killed approximately 150 people. It is the forgotten member of the same one-night fire complex.

The Wisconsin Forest Fire That Killed Two Hundred People the Same Night as Peshtigo and Was Forgotten

The Door Peninsula firestorm of 8 October 1871 swept the eastern shore of Green Bay Wisconsin the same night as the Peshtigo Fire. It killed approximately 150 people, destroyed the towns of Brussels and Williamsonville, and was completely overshadowed by both the larger Peshtigo Fire and the simultaneous Great Chicago Fire.
