The Wow! Signal of 15 August 1977, the Radio Burst From Deep Space That Never Repeated
On 15 August 1977 Ohio State's Big Ear telescope recorded a 72-second narrowband radio signal from the direction of Sagittarius, at the hydrogen frequency SETI theorists had predicted — thirty times the background, exactly what an alien beacon might look like. Astronomer Jerry Ehman circled the printout and wrote 'Wow!'. Despite decades of searching, it has never been heard again.
