Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Lunar Module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquility at 20:17 UTC on 20 July 1969. Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface at 02:56 UTC on 21 July 1969. The two astronauts spent 2 hours 31 minutes outside the spacecraft and returned with 21.55 kg of lunar samples.
